Meet the 'Captain'

 

Like every other ship that requires a sailor, a captain and crew members; the captain of Aurotrans is Capt. T. S. Prasad Mani.

 

Captain’s passion about shipping management gave birth to Aurotrans Maritime Services (P) Ltd where he is started as a Marine Consultant and later a Licensed Surveyor/Loss Assessor, Licensed Freight Forwarder and also became the authorized representative of major shipping companies in India. Since then, Aurotrans has developed to a leading tank container operator in South India. Aurotrans has handled 60% tank container traffic out of Chennai Port in 1999 and continues to be a respected name in Cargo and Freight forwarding Business.

 

Captain’s interest in Education and training helped him to work with UNDP and IMO - Regional Bureau of Africa as a Team Leader on Assessment mission. He was responsible for assessing training of land based personnel of Regional Maritime Academy in Ghana and Ivory Coast. Captain also worked as Vice President of Gordon Woodroffe Ltd, where he was the profit head for the entire Shipping and Air Freight Division in India.

 

With his wide range of experience and expertise in shipping, Captain is a known name in the shipping Industry in India and abroad. He has partnered with shipping giants like TABY, Hamburg, Germany; Bulktainer, Rio de Janerio, Brazil; Eurotainer, Paris, France, Merlion Singapore, Infinity Malaysia, SIA Flexitanks Malaysia and many more as Agent and continues to be respected as a key player in their success in India.

 

Captain’s interest in Education is visible from the various courses that he has attended to manage cargos and shipping navigation and monitoring. Captain has completed various certifications that includes a Master Certificate in Foreign Going Vessels from Director-General of Shipping, Government of India and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management/Council for National Academic Awards from Plymouth University, United Kingdom (1978-1979).

 

Captain was interested in bringing home opportunities for students to study with Plymouth University. He met success with this in 2012 and Captain and Aurotrans became the principal contact of Plymouth University in India. Captain was also awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Enterprise Awards in 2012 for his achievements as an alumni of Plymouth University. Captain been conferred Honorary Doctorate in business from Plymouth University at Plymouth on 21st September 2015.

 

 

 

Captain started his career as Junior Officer in Navigation and Safe routing in 1968 after his pre sea training at T S Dufferin (1966-1968) and has since worked with various shipping companies at different positions. Some key positions handled are Chief Officer/Master at United Arab Shipping (S.A.G.) Kuwait. Chief officer/Master at Egon Oldendorff, Germany, a leading drybulk shipping operator; Vice President at Gordon Woodroffe Ltd, Chennai and Line Manager at Shaw Wallace & Co., Calcutta.
